I have a great many things to update you guys on this week! There are so many things going on in our lives, that I decided to make one big update post. Are you not interested in updates? Well, carry on then… I’ll write one final update on the challenge for the upcoming post and then we’ll be back to regular blogging, so hang in there if you’re not enjoying the updates.
The Challenge Update
Today is our regular grocery day, and even though we didn’t have as much trouble as I though me might, I am so incredibly happy to go out and get milk! Most of our regular bread toppings have run out, but I think I would have been able to manage for a few more days (we still have plenty of eggs, cucumber and tomatoes, and some grated cheese as well). We also still have some dark chocolate, and Bas has been making popcorn for snacks this week, so we wouldn’t have run out of snack foods either.
We do still have a couple more days until it’s market day, so we hardly have any vegetables left. There are still some fruits, but they are starting to look questionable. Since we can buy milk today I can make the banana’s into pancakes or some other sweet snackfood. The grapes are in the fridge, so they’ll probably survive a couple more days.
We still have a few more days of leftover dinners to try and empty out that freezer before I go and get fresh veggies, so I’m hoping to be able to clean it out next weekend. I’ll be posting one final conclusion to the challenge on the day before market day, so keep an eye on the blog if you’re curious.
Now this isn’t really and update, because I don’t think I’ve posted about this before, but we are in the process of redoing most of our upper floor. We’ve been working on it for a while, but now that we have a baby on the way, it has become a bit more urgent. My current project is installing a plywood floor in the hallway. You read that right, plywood! I found a tutorial here, and decided to give it a go.
I had started working on it before I was pregnant, but when the pregnancy sickness hit, I was unable to continue for a couple of months.
At the height of it all, the smell of plywood (and possibly the associated feeling of failure and unfinished projects) would make me nauseous and I had a hard time even going upstairs.
Luckily that passed, and last week I got started again. Today I finished nailing down the last plank. Now I have to sand the edges, maybe hammer in some extra nails here and there and then I can start staining the floor. I’ll be sure to post pictures when I’m done.
Oh… right… my Green Year’s Resolution for the month. I knew there was something I should be spending more time on. I was supposed to learn how to actually knit clothes this month. As you may have guessed, other things got in the way for a bit. However, the month isn’t over yet and there’s still some time to get closer to my goal.
I have to be realistic here, I’m not going to be making any sweaters in the next two weeks, but I have really gotten the hang of basic knitting, and I’m doing really well with the baby blanket I’m making.
Time to make a small shift in resolutions. The new goal is to have finished the blanket by the end of the month and to have started on a more difficult project. This way I will keep on knitting after the month is over and undoubtedly pick up some more techniques along the way.
I’m happy to inform you, the baby is doing really well. She has been bouncing around happily in my tummy and I can feel her move more often now.
Now that we know it’s a girl, we’ve been able to get her some clothes (Traded from the trading website I posted about earlier). And yesterday we picked up this gorgeous second hand baby car/stroller. I really wanted our baby car to be more classic. For some reason I just really dislike the modern, plastic and aluminum cars. The one we found just has a much better, warmer vibe to it, and so it will provide a great environment for our little one.
We won’t be needing much more for the baby. Mainly a changing table and a set of cloth diapers. I’m sure there will be some other small things we’ll need, but over all, we won’t be needing much.
We still have a lot of work to do around the house, but we have plenty of time to get everything done.
So, now you are up to date on all the things going on in our lives. Hopefully, you enjoyed reading this. Remember, you can always leave a comment below, or on our Facebookpage.
