You’ve probably heard of a study that was conducted, where recent lottery winners and recently disabled people were asked about their happiness. Obviously, the lottery winners were ecstatic, and the disabled people were miserable. However, after only two months, both groups had come back to the same scale of happiness they had experienced before the life altering event took place. This study shows that happiness is not something that’s achieved through circumstances in a person’s life, rather through the person themselves. You can get accustomed to most circumstances within just two months. Achieving superficial goals will only give you a boost in happiness for a very short amount of time. I think this is good news! It means we all have control over our happiness, no matter what your circumstances are.
I’m a happy person. I have high and low days like everyone else, but my high days are really high, and much more frequent than my low days. More often than not, I’m going through life feeling nothing but bliss. You’re probably wondering what’s going on in my life, that causes this. What do I do all day to make me so happy? So I decided to make a list of 5 things that bring me joy. They are all green, low cost, or even cost saving things. It made me realize once more, I really don’t need much to be happy.
5 Things That Make Me Happy
1. Tending to my plants and garden.
2. Hanging the laundry to dry outside in the sun
3. Repairing, maintaining or creating things. (sewing, DIY, crafting)
4. Being outside, hunting down Geocaches with Bas (More about that in my next post).
5. Laying around looking at my tummy, watching and feeling the baby move.
I can think of many more, so maybe I’ll make more posts like this in the future. Hopefully I inspired you to find some blessings in your own life. Because everybody deserves happiness. What are some things that make you happy?
